Festival de cinema e vídeo ambiental

Dos 18 prêmios entregues no ultimo dia 12 de dezembro aos filmes que venceram o 7° Festival de Cinema da Amazônia, cinco desses prêmios foram entregues a filmes e cineastas maranhenses, comprovando assim a boa fase por qual passa o cinema maranhense.

Pelo Ouvido de Joaquim Haickel foi escolhido pelo júri técnico o melhor filme de ficção do festival, enquanto o filme Vela do Crucificado, do também maranhense Frederico Machado foi escolhido melhor filme do festival. Além do prêmio de melhor filme, Vela do Cruscificado ganhou os prêmios de melhor direção, melhor roteiro e melhor ator.

With beauty, grace and humour, transvestite Jesus Emilio assumes the persona of Stefany and confronts the closed and homophobic society of El Choco, Colombia, with the fact of his homosexuality. Stefany speaks intimately about her faith, the pain and isolation she suffers, being gay and black. Through the death rites of the Palo religion, she is, paradoxically, able to find new life and hope of acceptance and love.

Melhor filme no 17º Concurso Iberoamericano de Cortometrajes de Cartagena, na Colômbia, melhor filme no The 2009 Newport Beach Film Festival, melhor filme internacional no FirstGlance Film Festival Philadelphia 11, melhor direção no Boston International Film Festival, ambos nos Estados Unidos, melhor filme no VI Ibero Brasil Cine Festival de Valência e prêmio especial do júri na Mostra de Cinema Llatinoamericà de Catalunya, na Espanha. Já no Brasil, participou do 7º FestCine Amazônia, do 7º Festival Curta Natal e do 16º Festvídeo Teresina onde ganhou os prêmios de melhor filme de ficção. No II Festival Curta Cabo Frio (RJ), recebeu os prêmios, especial do júri e o de melhor atriz, enquanto no 31º Festival Guarnicê de Cinema (MA) saiu com os prêmios de melhor filme do júri popular e novamente de melhor atriz para Amanda Acosta.
