Com 62,42 pontos, o munic\u00edpio da regi\u00e3o metropolitana fica atr\u00e1s apenas de S\u00e3o Lu\u00eds (65,64) e Pa\u00e7o do Lumiar (63,06), consolidando-se no seleto grupo das tr\u00eas melhores cidades do estado para se viver.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Na edi\u00e7\u00e3o anterior (IPS 2024\/2025), a cidade havia somado 60,85 pontos \u2014 uma diferen\u00e7a de quase dois pontos para menos na compara\u00e7\u00e3o com o levantamento atual, conforme dados obtidos pelo blog de Isa\u00edas Rocha. Conhecida pelo forte turismo religioso, tendo o Santu\u00e1rio de S\u00e3o Jos\u00e9 como principal cart\u00e3o-postal, a cidade tamb\u00e9m encanta por suas praias, que oferecem ref\u00fagios tranquilos \u00e0 beira-mar, al\u00e9m de uma gastronomia costeira de alto n\u00edvel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>No cen\u00e1rio consolidado do progresso socioambiental, S\u00e3o Jos\u00e9 de Ribamar figura consistentemente entre os dez munic\u00edpios maranhenses com melhor infraestrutura urbana, habita\u00e7\u00e3o e bem-estar. A cidade ganhou destaque nacional especialmente em indicadores de prote\u00e7\u00e3o ao cidad\u00e3o: nos mapeamentos de vulnerabilidade e seguran\u00e7a, aparece como uma das cidades mais seguras da Regi\u00e3o Nordeste.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>O IPS Brasil 2026, divulgado pelo Instituto Imazon em parceria com outras organiza\u00e7\u00f5es, avaliou os 5.570 munic\u00edpios brasileiros a partir de 57 indicadores sociais e ambientais \u2014 indo muito al\u00e9m da economia. Apesar do bom desempenho relativo de Ribamar no \u00e2mbito local, o Maranh\u00e3o ainda enfrenta desafios estruturais graves, ocupando a 26\u00aa posi\u00e7\u00e3o entre as 27 unidades da federa\u00e7\u00e3o, com m\u00e9dia de 57,59 pontos.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Diferente de \u00edndices que medem apenas a riqueza produzida \u2014 como o PIB \u2014, o IPS busca captar se essa riqueza se converte em benef\u00edcios reais para a popula\u00e7\u00e3o, considerando moradia, sa\u00fade, seguran\u00e7a, educa\u00e7\u00e3o, acesso \u00e0 informa\u00e7\u00e3o, inclus\u00e3o social e qualidade ambiental.
